MAMAS TIP: Cinchy Way To Lose The Fat!

cooking with momOkay, Mrs. Obama, we get it. The obesity epidemic that’s threatening the health of our children has got to go. We need to get a handle on some of the more unhealthy habits we have come to love. We need to move more and eat better. Got it.

But in the day-to-day world of cooking for a family, sometimes we just don’t know how to make the small but important changes that will make a difference. Especially when it comes to messing around with tried-and-true family recipes.

We know! And of course The Mamas are here to give you a hand. This quick and dirty way to remove unwanted fat from some of your favorite meals may not end the obesity epidemic, but it’s a start!

Next time you’re cooking up a pot of your world famous chili, pasta sauce, soup or stew, grab a large piece of lettuce and float it on the top. Just let it sit there for a bit and watch as it soaks up the fat. Switch out with new leaves till the fat is gone.

Or you could grab a couple of ice cubes from the freezer and gently set them on top of the sauce. The fat particles will cling to them. Just make sure to scoop them out before they melt or you’ve just wasted your time.

One more simple way to get the job done is to separate an egg and slip just the white part onto the top of your stew. Believe it or not it will absorb the fat which can them be removed with a slotted spoon. Just make sure you don’t stir your creation until the fat catchers are out!
