    It depends on the childcare…and the college. In my small town in IN, an unlicensed in-home daycare provider is $90/week, or $4500/yr. The private college in that same small town costs $30,000 year. In contrast, an accredited childcare facility in a big city can easily cost $400/week ($20,000/yr) while a community college costs $3,000 per year.

    The other factor that makes this comparison tricky is that a college student can work (at least part time) to help pay for their college; that isn’t really an option for an infant :)

    Either way, it makes my policy of taking the money that I spend on childcare and shifting it to college savings when the kids go to elementary school seem like a wise one…

    Smart move, Ann. Most of us are just glad to get past those child care bills and pocket the extra cash. Kudos to you!
