If you’ve ever dared to venture out of the house with a little one in tow, you may have run into that awkward situation involving big-people toilets that flush on their own, and freaked-out children mystified (or terrified) by what’s going on.
The sudden, unexpected flush and accompanying splash of water hitting his little behind is enough to scare the you-know-what out of any self-respecting toddler, especially one who’s just learning to use the toilet. Is it alive? he may wonder. What’s it going to do next?
Progress is great, of course, but when it gets in the way of your child going pee-pee in peace, it’s not so hot.
What can you do to reduce the trauma and the odds that your kid will start screaming or jump off the pot right in the middle of taking care of business?
We have the answer! It’s cheap, easy and super convenient. Just carry around a stack of Post-It notes and next time your toddler needs to use the facilities, grab a couple and cover the sensors on the toilet with them. Presto! That seemingly psychic toilet will immediately turn into a retro can that stays still and quiet until you hit the flush button yourself.
Then your little guy won’t be frightened by the premature splash and flush that happens because his little body is so light and small that it fools the machine into thinking the user has stepped away. And you won’t need to run interference trying to keep him from falling in or falling off anymore.

If you don’t have Post-It’s, some of the sensors are actually low enough to drape some TP over, or to cover in another way. Yes, these things are terrifying to some little ones! My son will still prefer to go to his father’s office a few blocks away from the mall because it doesn’t have a “loud flusher”.
Now there will be a run on Post-It notes!
