So you finally got the diagnosis: your sweet, adorable child has ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder). In a way it’s a relief to know what’s at the root of his problems at school, home or with friends. Now it makes sense. But at the same time, you may be scared.
You might feel overwhelmed with questions and concerns about his future and what it will look like. Will he be able to make it on his own? Will he be able to navigate the adult world and create a life that is successful and happy? Will he have friends and a job he likes? Will he get married?
Well, as you shall soon see, you have every reason to hope and to expect that given the proper treatment and support he has a very good chance of creating a bright future for himself. Many people who have ADHD have gone on to have extraordinary lives packed full of success, adventure, wonderful friends and lots of love.
Some have found success on the stage and screen while others have excelled in the business world. Some folks with ADHD have made it big in the world of sports and still others have found their calling in politics or in the kitchen as a celebrity chef.
Whatever path they choose to take, it seems clear that a child’s diagnosis of ADHD does not mean that the doors will slam shut in his face as he begins his life as a grown-up.
But if you’re still not convinced, take a look at Parenting Magazine’s slideshow of famous people with ADHD and then relax, mama. All is well.
