Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution

This is a first. We’ve never endorsed a TV show before.  Not because there aren’t several we enjoy, but we’ve just never found a good reason to encourage you to spend more hours passively absorbing entertainment.

But here’s the exception: Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution. We LOVE this guy!

Jamie is a charming British bloke who made his reputation transforming the junk food menus at elementary schools in the UK. Now he comes to America to attack our kid’s eating habits … and it’s not easy.

His first stop is Huntington, West Virginia, the city that holds the dubious honor of “most unhealthy town in America”.  It’s got the highest rate of obesity and premature death anywhere in the country.  When you get a load of their eating habit’s you’ll see why.

The local elementary school serves pizza for breakfast, fried chicken nuggets for lunch, and shocking pink strawberry ‘milk’ … all of it packed with ingredients we can’t even pronounce.  Jamie’s horrified, and we are too.

The locals are VERY suspicious of our friend. From the quirky cafeteria lunch ladies to the families whose diets he critiques, Jamie’s got his work cut out for him. Will he be able to win them over and help them get healthier?  We’re  guessing he probably will, but we’re sure going along for the ride.

After each show the website posts healthy kid-friendly recipes inspired by the episode. Here’s one he calls Jamie Oliver’s Classic Tomato Spaghetti.

If you missed the premier episode you can watch it here. We think you’ll be glad you did.
