First Graders in Padded Bikini Bras – REALLY??

There’s Nothing Cuter Than a Toddler in Heels: The Sequel

Awhile ago we posted a popular piece about the recent phenom craze of tiny tots teetering around in high heels (if you missed it, read it here), and Ellen raised the question … where do we go from here?

Well Mamas, we now have the answer. British clothing chain, Primark, has been marketing padded bikini tops for the young and boob-less. Children as young as 6 can make up for what nature forgot … or, um, just hasn’t gotten around to yet.

The good news is that after receiving scathing criticism from all directions for sexualizing young girls and encouraging pedophilia (no, really?!), Primark has agreed to stop selling the item. Good for them.

But we still can’t get over this copy from the Primark website that expresses how they really feel about our daughters’ bodies …

“Every girl wants to look her best and at Primark we make no exception for the younger ladies, all the high fashion trends can be found in our Girlswear section, no matter what age you are”.

Perhaps we are indulging our tendency to rail against popular trends we see as damaging to children, but HELLLOOOO ….

We’ll bet you dollars to donuts that this cute little number is not dead, but will soon be popping up at a retailer near you who thinks they can get away with it and bank some profits before the noise gets too loud. If so, can you spell B-O-Y-C-O-T-T?

The Times of London says it is not the first such incident, noting that the Tesco chain recently decided to withdraw a pole-dancing kit from its toy selection.

The Mamas are not amused, but we can’t say we’re surprised either.

Um, and how about the hooker makeup on these two youngsters?

Parents who allow this should not be allowed to be parents…
