The New Haven Diaper Bank

JOANNE GOLDBLUM, President, The New Haven Diaper Bank, New Haven, Connecticut is a social worker who noticed a huge but unrecognized problem and did something really heroic about it. In visiting low-income families during the 1990′s Joanne often came upon babies and toddlers who were wearing the same diaper for many hours, even days, at a time. This necessary and vital item is not covered through food stamps or public assistance and many of the working poor could not afford to buy them without some help.

And since working parents need to provide a day’s worth of diapers (at least 8) in order to send their child to day care it often became impossible for some of them to get to work. So in 1994 Joanne organized an all-volunteer program that today distributes 200,000 diapers per month to needy families. But tough economic times are making it harder to continue.

To learn more, or make a donation, check their website and sleep better knowing that because of your help, some little girl or boy won’t be walking around all day in a poopy diaper.
