Perhaps us Mamas are the only ones who consider this strange. The New York Times, one of our favorite sources of health information, recently featured a story about Susie’s Supper Club — a home delivery service for ‘child-friendly’ meals. Susie specializes in menu items like zucchini fritters, lasagna, and spinach squares. She uses organic ingredients and grass-fed beef and will deliver them to your door with 24 hours advance online notice.
Not that there’s anything inherently wrong with this service … mamas love convenience as much as anyone. But it just doesn’t seem that difficult to come up with simple, healthy meals for kids. A few baby carrots, turkey meatballs from the supermarket, and a handful of whole grain rice, quinoa, or pasta might just do it. And of course there are lots of great resources, like these at Divine Caroline.
Please keep in mind that kids learn how to parent from US. If we’re too busy with life to put together basic meals to nourish them, what message are we sending? Order it, buy it, hire it … there’s most definitely a place for that. But basic meals just may not be it.
