If you’ve got one who has decided he only likes that fake white bread with no nutritional value what-so-ever, take heart. You can totally trick him into going for the good stuff. Just start to make half of his sandwich with one piece of white bread and one piece of whole wheat or multi-grain bread.
Serve it with the white side up. And if he balks, just tell him that his mouth and taste buds need to make friends with the other bread, too. Kids actually need to be introduced to some foods many, many times before they like them.
And their food tastes change regularly, so keep giving them chances to try just a bite or two. Don’t give up but don’t make a federal case out of it either. Food is not something you want to get into a power struggle over, believe me. What goes in and when and where it comes out are basically the only areas where they have absolute control. So you need to take it easy and don’t freak out if they won’t eat a particular food.
Just don’t substitute something that’s not good for them because you are worried that they will starve. They won’t and eventually they will be eating you out of house and home like ours do.
